Speaker 1:

Now the last two tenants of emotional intelligence will cover together, and that is social skills and motivation. So social skills is the ability to facilitate effective interactions in relationship with others. It includes communication, active listening, conflict resolution, teamwork and influence. People with strong social skills are adept at ability to maintain relationships, cooperating with others. What everybody is Now when you think about motivation the ability to harness emotions to drive and sustain motivation and positive outcomes the motivation definition for EQ is often very close to what Angela Duckworth talks about in her book GRIT.

Speaker 1:

Now, grit for us stands for Guts, resilience, intensity and Tenacity. Yet she has, in her research, proclaimed that the number one determinant of someone's success is GRIT, which is passion and perseverance over a lengthy period of time. Come on, let's be honest. We all too often hear what we hear, what other people say, and they give up well, I didn't get that promotion, it's bull, I'm not going to try again. And we come up with our own narratives that can make ourselves feel good about ourselves in the moment, and then we stop pursuing what we need to pursue. We've lost that conviction of going through the murky waters, going through the storms. That's where we build our skills. If everything was a smooth day. If every day was a wonderful day, if every day didn't have conflict, we wouldn't build those skills when those things creep up. The tough times cultivate us. The challenging times actually reward us. So think about social skills and motivation. Where do you have an opportunity to go to the next level?
