Speaker 1:

One of the major questions that comes up in the workplace right now is how will AI affect coaching? How will it affect leadership? Let me just focus on coaching for a second. When we think about coaching, it's an investment in another person to make a decision. Often, coaching can be misunderstood as it's my responsibility to get that person to change or improve. Responsibility to get that person to change or improve. The coaching's responsibility is really to get the person to make the decision and take action on what they need to improve and change or want to improve and change. Where does AI come into that? Let's look at some fundamental numbers, and I cite them all the time.

Speaker 1:

If 85% of people, according to Tasha Yerkes' study, significantly lack self-awareness, what happens? Someone lacking self-awareness is not going to go to their boss and say boss, I got a terrible attitude and I am an undermining teammate and, by the way, I've talked badly about you, I could use an AI coach. So at the foundation of self-awareness is a person's commitment. A tool is not going to go find that person and say you've got a negative attitude. At some point. Ai becomes a partner in the process if the leader should so choose. Now, if somebody is engaging with an AI tool and it's not giving that individual what they want. What's ultimately going to happen? What's ultimately going to happen is is that person is going to have a blind spot. They're not going to really look in the mirror and realize things, but they're going to go to an AI tool and if they don't get what they want, they're going to say, well, this is dumb. And so I think what's going to happen is and this sounds really oxymoronic AI is going to drive more human-based coaching conversations.

Speaker 1:

So, when you think about if you have someone with a negative attitude and you have an AI tool and we have our own AI tools I'm not against AI, quite frankly, I love AI you might get an AI tool and say to your employee every week, I want you to ask three improvement questions as it relates to what you're working on. So maybe it's attitude, teamwork, motivation. I want you to ask three questions such as what can I do to be a better teammate? What can I do to raise my motivation? What can I do to help me discover my motivation and passion? Now the AI tool becomes your partner. So we have to have a very structured expectation if AI is going to be our partner in coaching. What are your thoughts?
